Don Giovanni Opens Next Week

Italian baritone Luca Micheletti makes his Opera Australia debut in the role of the devilish Don Giovanni Sir David McVicar’s highly acclaimed production of Mozart’s eponymous opera. This thrilling gothic, production explores themes of repentance and moral ambivalence.

Luca Micheletti is known not only for his magnificent voice, but also his outstanding acting. He brings these skills together as he makes his debut in this famous and demanding role on the stage of the Joan Sutherland Theatre in the Sydney Opera House.

Luca Micheletti began his career as a theatre actor and stage director before finding his passion for opera and studying under tenor Mario Malagnini.

Opposite Luca in the role of Donna Anna, is is Sydney-born, award-winning soprano Eleanor Lyons. Returning home after years performing internationally to make her debut, for both Opera Australia and at the Sydney Opera House, Eleanor Lyons is based in Europe, living in Vienna.

Opera Australia is delighted to welcome Xu Zhong who will conduct the production, making his OA debut this season. The Chinese conductor holds an impressive list of accolades including the General Director of the Shanghai Opera House. Maestro Xu conducts an ensemble which includes Shane Lowrencev as Leporello, Jane Ede as Donna Elvira, and Richard Anderson as Masetto, all of whom are reprising these roles.

Anna Dowsley will perform as Zerlina, and Juan de Dios Mateos takes the role of Don Ottavio. Sir David McVicar’s atmospheric interpretation is revived by Revival Director Matthew Barclay.
