The Menuhins: A Recital Of Music And Narration
In 1974, Philip Bailey landed a gig in London selling electric cars for Yehudi Menuhin. Although that enterprise was shortlived, it was the beginning of a 20 year association and friendship with the Menuhins. Bailey joined their entourage and became the famous violinist’s personal assistant, travelling the world with him. In 2008, he released the biography, Yehudiana: Reliving the Menuhin Odyssey.
Trinity Grammar School’s Society of the Arts presents The Menuhins – A Miraculous Menage in which the brilliant and entertaining raconteur in collaboration with SSO violinist Marina Marsden and concert pianist Clemens Leske will share music and stories at the heart of the Menuhin saga. Amusing and moving anecdotes from Bailey’s experiences touring with the Menuhins will introduce the music they lived and loved. The repertoire is a representative mix of music from the Baroque to the modern. It includes Nigun from Ernest Bloch’s 1923 Baal Shem Suite, Bartok’s Romanian Dances and, at the other end of the time line, the chamber music of J S Bach.
