Mozart’s Kegelstatt trio will be performed alongside new soulful song cycles and chamber works by the brightest young emerging Australian composers in A Place in my Soul, a concert featuring soprano Susannah Lawergren of the Song Company and the Hourglass Ensemble.

Susannah Lawergren debuts with the ensemble, premiering song cycles about memory and loss. The line-up includes three world premieres. Amber Evans’ song-cycle Stained Red Heart is a tender examination of aspects of separation – parenthood, Australia’s Apology, and honouring the dead. Richard Grantham song-cycle Finally After All This looks at the nature of the eulogy, the gnawing emptiness of grief and the great depths of love. Margaret Muller’s two new pieces describe separately Earth’s magnetic cries as humans blithely overrun it, and the Australian sentimental joy of connection to the past and nature.
