The Willoughby Symphony finishes its 2019 season with this monumental concert as Dr Nicholas Milton AM and the Orchestra bring you TITAN. This program concludes with Mahler’s epic First Symphony, a youthful work of genius alive with an bundance of emotions, musical ideas and the pulse of passion.
The performance opens with Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, written as part of a set of incidental music for a play by Goethe, which deals with the theme of political oppression overthrown in the name of freedom – the triumph of good over evil.
Our soloist for this concert, performing one of the evergreen violin concertos of the romantic period, Bruch’s Concerto No 1, is the Australian-based Canadian virtuoso Alexandre Da Costa.
